Stirlingkit Retrol SE-02
This is a Retrol SE-02 Steam Engine Kit, supplied to me by Stirling kit for review. It is a complete plant, with a horizontal
piston valve steam engine, boiler, burner and a generator which drives an illuminated street lamp.
The kit is very well boxed with dedicated foam cut inlays for all the parts. It is complete with all the tools needed
for assembly and some comprehensive very clear instruction sheets. The CNC machined parts are of a very high quality.
Assembly is straight forward. All the major components are already built, all that is required is assembly of
the firebox and fixing the components to the base. It shouldn't take more than an hour to complete.
The little SE-02 is a joy to run. The boiler makes steam quickly and the engine runs very well. The reversing gear
allows the engine to run in either direction and the street lamp illuminates which ever way the engine is run. The
whistle also works well and has a nice tone.
The only item that I have some concerns with is the burner which I feel could be a little more robust in it's construction.
All in all, the kit builds into a superb little steam engine plant.
